JTS Hosts Lecture on Answering a Question with a Question: Contemporary Psychoanalysis and Jewish Thought

The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) is pleased to host a presentation on the book Answering a Question with a Question: Contemporary Psychoanalysis and Jewish Thought with its editors, Lewis Aron and Libby Henik. A Gerson D. Cohen Memorial Lecture, the event will take place onThursday, March 29, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., at JTS (3080 Broadway, at 122nd Street). It is free and open to the public.

Dr. Aron and Ms. Henik will discuss their book, which addresses both the relevance of the Jewish interpretive tradition to the expanding world of psychoanalytic theory and the influence of psychoanalytic thinking regarding the intrapsychic and the interpersonal on Jewish thought.

Lewis Aron, PhD, is the director of the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. He has served as president of the Division of Psychoanalysis of the American Psychological Association, and as founding president of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP). Dr. Aron is author and editor of numerous articles and books.

Libby Henik, LCSW, is in private practice in New York and New Jersey. She is a graduate of the Wurzweiler School of Social Work of Yeshiva University, and a graduate in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy of the American Institute for Psychoanalysis of the Karen Horney Psychoanalytic Center. Ms. Henik, who holds an MA in Hebrew Literature from Hunter College, studied Biblical Exegesis and Hebrew Literature with Professor Milton Arfa at Hunter, and with Professor Nechama Leibowitz at Bar-Ilan University.

The annual Gerson D. Cohen Memorial Lecture was established in 1993 by the Honorable Howard M.Holtzmann, honorary chairman of the JTS Board of Trustees, as a tribute to the late Gerson D. Cohen,who served as chancellor of JTS from 1972 to 1986.
